I’m Ashley – a nurse practitioner and owner behind His and Hers Hormone Health & Wellness. Before opening my clinic, I worked in emergency medicine, family practice, and urgent care. And while I loved helping people in those roles, nothing has been quite as transformative as the journey I’ve taken into the world of hormone health. Learning how to truly understand hormones and how to treat them safely, and effectively hasn’t been easy. It’s a field full of outdated beliefs, conflicting advice, and unfortunately, a lot of stigma. The truth? Most primary care providers and physicians haven’t received up-to-date education on hormone therapy, that included me prior to me going down the rabbit holes of hormones. I just didn’t know what I didn’t know. This results in patients are often dismissed or misdiagnosed when hormones are the root cause of what they’re feeling. I treat hormones like psychiatry. I treat based on how you’re feeling -not necessarily what your levels are. But I’m here to help change how you feel by using evidence based to support as to why I do what I do. I’m still learning every day—and I’m proud of that. Hormone care isn’t a one-and-done. It’s a relationship. It’s personalized. And when done right, it’s life-changing.
Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) has evolved so much over the years. That big study from the World Health Organization in the early 2000s that suggested hormones caused heart attacks, blood clots, strokes, and cancer. It was misunderstood. The study extrapolated information from one high risk group and applied that information to every age group in the study when the evidence didn’t actually support that data. Even the researchers of the study were blown away by the inaccurate information of the study that was printed. What we know now is that when HRT is started at the right time—typically around the onset of menopause—it can be not just safe but incredibly also protective and beneficial.
When your hormones are in balance, everything shifts back to baseline; Your body feels better, your brain works better, and honestly? The spark that makes you who you are, comes back!
HRT can help you feel more stable moods, give you relief from hot flashes and night sweats, better sleep and lasting energy, increased libido and vaginal comfort, easier weight management and muscle tone, and clearer thinking with sharper memory. Some younger women experience terrible PMS symptoms. Hormones can help buffer that and help keep you at baseline. This isn’t about changing who you are—it’s about feeling like yourself again.
This isn’t just about comfort either—it’s also about protection. A 2021 review in Frontiers in Endocrinology found that starting HRT early may reduce the risk of heart disease and dementia. Supporting your hormones helps supports Bone health by reducing the risk of osteoporosis and fractures. HRT helps to protect Heart health by Improving cholesterol, blood pressure, and vascular function. One of peoples favorite by products of using HRT is the Metabolic health benefits. HRT helps to lower your risk of type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance which in turn helps with weight loss and overall improved health. According to VeryWell Health, starting HRT near menopause may help lower dementia risk. This works by the estrogen not allowing amyloid plaques from adhering together preventing development of dementia. How amazing is that for those who have a family history of alzheimers and dementia? I find it incredible that understanding the intricacies of hormones can help in so many ways.
I created His and Hers Hormone Health & Wellness to help you feel at home in your body again—with compassion, education, and science-backed care. No judgment. No rush. Just a team who listens and cares.
